Country liquor was being carried in cold drink bottles.
In a major action, Udala police seized 171 liters of country liquor from a private bus at Udala bus stand in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. This liquor was being carried hidden in cold drink bottles. In this case, the police have arrested three smugglers, who have been identified as Sanyasi Bisoi, Umakant Das and Putu Singh. All three are residents of Bhubaneswar, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj districts.
According to the police, the country liquor was being transported from Khunta to Bhubaneswar. He had received secret information that a consignment of illicit liquor was being sent in a private bus named “Raja Babu”. The police took immediate action and stopped the bus and searched it. During the search, 171 liters of country liquor filled in cold drink bottles was recovered.
Money was paid on safe delivery of bags
The arrested accused told that they were going to deliver this liquor from Khunta to the high-tech area of Bhubaneswar. He used to get Rs 500 for the safe delivery of each bag. Sanyasi Bisoi also admitted that it was his first time to smuggle country liquor. Police have seized 76 cold drink bottles, which were filled with about 171 liters of country liquor. The police is now deeply investigating this case and is searching for other accused in this big smuggling network.
More tribal people live in Mayurbhanj
An officer of Udala police station said, “Country liquor is consumed in the slum areas of Bhubaneswar. More tribal people live in Mayurbhanj. Hence, some people make country liquor here. Some people come and take it from Bhubaneswar. In this case also, they were carrying liquor in cold drink bottles, which we caught red handed.” The value of the seized country liquor is said to be Rs 50 thousand. Three people have been arrested in this case. The police have taken action against the accused in this case under special section 52(A). The officer also said that there is a big gang of smugglers of country liquor, which is being investigated.
When the police found liquor in cold drink bottles, the situation was shocking, because drinking country liquor not only makes people intoxicated, but sometimes it also leads to deaths. Police and Excise Department took immediate action in this matter and arrested the smugglers and started investigating their network. (Report- Shubham Kumar)
