Indian Cricketer Retirement: After the third Test in the Test series being played between India and Australia, Team India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement. After the Gabba Test was drawn, he surprised everyone by suddenly retiring from international cricket in a press conference with captain Rohit Sharma. People may be surprised by Ashwin’s retirement, but after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, some other greats of Team India are also seen in the same line.
It is believed that some more players of the team may decide to retire after the Australia tour. These include the names of Team India captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batsman Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. After India won the World Cup, these three players had announced their retirement before the T20.
Now the emphasis is on trying young players
At present, the Indian team is going through a phase of change where many young players are being tried on the basis of their performance. A similar period of change was also seen in 2012-13 when players like Indian team legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman retired. During that time, players like Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja became part of Team India.
Everyone may have been surprised by Ashwin’s decision of retirement, but after seeing Washington Sundar getting more opportunities, he realized that now his chances of getting further opportunities are very less. He also realized that his chances of being selected for the England tour were very less. Ashwin, who had performed brilliantly in many matches for Team India, was not ready to sit on the bench and hence he announced his retirement in the middle of the series.
Rohit and Virat are continuously flopping
Now if we talk about the performance of the veteran players during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, then captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are continuously proving to be flops in this series. In this series, both the batsmen have disappointed the fans with their performance. Rohit Sharma is going through a very bad phase in Test cricket. He is continuously failing to play big innings. Same is the condition of Team India’s veteran batsman Virat Kohli.
Till now this year, since the Test series against Bangladesh, Virat’s average in the first innings has been less than 10. If we talk about Rohit, his first innings average is 6.8. Kohli may have scored a century in the second innings of the Perth Test, but before and after that he has been continuously failing.
Jadeja also has to take a decision on his future
Questions are being raised on the performance of these two players by many veteran cricketers. Ravindra Jadeja is now 36 years old and he too has to decide about his future. Jadeja certainly played an important inning of 77 runs during the Brisbane Test, but his bat also remained silent on many important occasions. Along with this, he has not been able to show any excellence in bowling also.
If the Indian team does not reach the final of the World Test Championship after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, then it will have to play a Test match in June-July next year. During this period, Team India will play a five-Test series on the England tour. In such a situation, it is believed that in the coming days, these three great players can take important decisions regarding their cricket career.
