A court in Badaun has fixed January 18 for the hearing of the Shamsi Jama Masjid vs Neelkanth Mandir case, in which it will be decided whether the case is maintainable or not.
Civil Judge (Senior Division) Amit Kumar has fixed January 18, 2025 for the next hearing in the Neelkanth Mandir vs Jama Masjid Shamsi case, an advocate said on Tuesday. On that day the court will decide whether the case is worth hearing or not.
Hindu side’s advocate Ved Prakash Sahu said that today on December 24, the court had to decide whether this matter is worthy of debate or not. In this regard, the advocates of both the parties presented their respective views on December 17, for which Civil Judge (Senior Division) Amit Kumar had fixed today’s date.
He said that due to the District Bar Association elections today, the court has not given any decision and has fixed January 24 to give its decision. Now on January 24, it will be decided whether this case is worth hearing or not.
Earlier, Mukesh Patel, litigant of Neelkanth Mahadev Temple had told that this was the fort of King Mahipal and there was a temple here which was demolished and converted into a mosque by the ruler and invader Shamsuddin Iltutmish of the slave dynasty.
The case started in 2022, when Mukesh Patel, the then convener of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, had claimed that there was a temple of Neelkanth Mahadev at the site of Jama Masjid. This mosque is built in an elevated area called Sotha Mohalla.
Shamsi Shahi Mosque is considered to be the tallest building in Badaun city. It is believed that this mosque is the third oldest and seventh largest mosque in the country, with space for 23,500 people to offer prayers simultaneously.
