New Delhi. Former Prime Minister of India and veteran Congress leader Dr. Manmohan Singh has passed away. He was admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi, where he breathed his last. Dr. Manmohan Singh was suffering from heart disease for a long time and had also undergone bypass surgery several times. There is a wave of mourning across the country due to the news of his demise.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was considered the master of economy in the country. His economic knowledge was so deep that in the year 1982, he was appointed the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He worked on this post till 1985. Apart from this, in 1972 he also assumed the post of Chief Economic Advisor and served in this role for four years.

Manmohan Singh was made the head of the Planning Commission in 1985, where he served till 1987. He was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1987 for his services. After this, in 1991, he was made the Finance Minister for the first time in the PV Narasimha Rao government. At that time the country was going through a serious economic crisis, but Manmohan Singh rescued the country from the crisis with his policies and economic reforms.

Congress party sent Dr. Manmohan Singh to Rajya Sabha several times. Once he also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Delhi, but lost. After this he never contested elections. In 2004, Sonia Gandhi offered him the post of Prime Minister, which he accepted. He was the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 and during this time he played an important role in the economic development of the country.
