Many states of North India are in the grip of cold. After two days of rain, now a cold wave is going on. Light fog is also being seen in the morning and evening. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of severe cold wave and dense fog conditions in many parts of northwest and central India in the coming days.
Now cold wave attack
The Meteorological Department has predicted severe cold wave in some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan on December 30 (Monday), December 31 (Tuesday) and January 1 (Wednesday). During this period, a drop in temperature may also be seen in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir and Rajasthan. Cold wave will hit all these states on New Year i.e. Wednesday. There will be a significant drop in temperature.
Dense fog will remain in these states
For the next three days i.e. till New Year (Wednesday), there is a possibility of dense to very dense fog in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states during late night and morning hours. Temperatures are expected to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius over northwest, west and central India. Due to this, there may be severe cold in the next few days.
Life affected in Kashmir due to heavy snowfall
Air, rail and road traffic has been disrupted due to the season’s heaviest snowfall in Kashmir. People are facing many problems due to disrupted electricity and water supply. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to heavy snowfall. Train services between Banihal and Baramulla have been suspended. Air traffic from Srinagar has come to a standstill.
Snowfall and rain in Uttarakhand
The temperature has dropped due to continuous snowfall in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. Popular places like Auli, Hemkund Sahib and Chopta have been covered with snow. Major highways including Badrinath and Joshimath-Niti road have been blocked, affecting connectivity. The rains have added to the problems by disrupting electricity in many villages of Karnaprayag, Tharali and Narayanbagh areas.
After record rain in Delhi, now cold wave
There was cloudy and cold weather in Delhi on Sunday. Delhi-NCR will remain cloudy on Monday also. Cold wave will continue even today. Due to this the temperature will drop. Delhi’s maximum temperature reached 15.8 degrees Celsius, much below normal, while the minimum temperature reached an abnormally high 12.7 degrees Celsius due to rain. Recently, 41.2 mm rainfall was recorded in Delhi within 24 hours. This is the highest rainfall in a single day in December since 1923.
Temperature went down in Punjab and Haryana
It rained in Punjab and Haryana on Sunday also. The temperature has gone down in cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana and Ambala. Rajasthan received moderate rainfall, with Jhalawar district recording 86 mm rainfall. Hail also fell in some eastern areas. Dense fog reduced visibility in some parts of the region. Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a maximum temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius, with rain throughout the day.
