Mumbai 26/11 Attack: India has got great success in America. Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana, who was involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, is likely to be brought to India soon. The US court has given green signal for Rana’s extradition. While giving its verdict in August 2024, the US court had approved sending Rana to India under the India-US extradition treaty.

What did the court say?

Rana is accused of helping 26/11 mastermind David Coleman Headley. Headley had conducted recce of locations in Mumbai. Earlier, India had presented strong evidence before the American court, in which Rana’s involvement was clearly seen. The court made it clear that the allegations against Rana in India are different from the cases in American courts. Under the agreement between the two countries, Rana can be extradited to India.

Was arrested from Chicago

The FBI arrested Rana from Chicago in 2009. Now preparations are in full swing to bring him to India. The court had convicted Rana of helping a terrorist organization and hatching a failed conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks in Denmark. However, the court rejected the charges of attacks in India but held that he had been involved in the Mumbai terror attack conspiracy, and he should be extradited to India.

Know about Tahawwur Rana

Tahawwur Rana was born in Pakistan. He studied at the Army Medical College and worked as a doctor in the Pakistan Army for 10 years. Later he left the job. Tahawwur Rana is currently a citizen of Canada. According to court documents, he has traveled to and lived in Canada, Pakistan, Germany and England. Documents show that from 2006 to November 2008, Tahawwur Rana conspired with David Headley and others in Pakistan. Terrorist Headley has become a government witness in this case.
