New Delhi: US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is likely to visit India early next week to take stock of the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET). ICET represents a landmark initiative between the two countries in the areas of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology and defense innovation. Sullivan’s visit will be the last high-level visit to New Delhi by the outgoing US Biden administration.

Extensive discussion will be held with Ajit Doval

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of America on January 20. It is understood that Sullivan will be in Delhi on January 6 and will hold extensive discussions with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. No official announcement has been made yet on the visit of American NSA to India. In their talks, Sullivan and Doval are expected to discuss the implementation of ICET, which is considered a key initiative to expand India-US strategic ties during Biden’s presidency.

Senior Indian officials will meet

ICET was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Biden in May 2022 with the aim of greater cooperation between the two countries in areas of critical technologies. Last year, both sides launched several transformative initiatives to deepen India-US cooperation in the semiconductor, critical minerals, advanced telecommunications, and defense sectors. During Sullivan’s visit, the two sides are also expected to review the overall India-US strategic relationship and the results achieved towards deepening relations between the two countries under Biden’s presidency. The US NSA is also likely to meet Foreign Minister Jaishankar and other senior Indian officials. Sullivan last visited India in June last year. (Language)
