Rahul Gandhi: Hearing was held today in the ongoing defamation case against leader Rahul Gandhi. In this case, BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi. This matter happened about six years ago, when during the Karnataka Assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi had made an objectionable statement against the then BJP national president Amit Shah. Hurt by this statement of Rahul, Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation petition in the court.
The hearing of this case against Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi is going on in MP MLA Court, Diwani, where today Rahul Gandhi’s advocate cross-examined the case. During this hearing, a statement was presented on behalf of Rahul Gandhi, in which he declared himself innocent and claimed that this case against him is part of a political conspiracy. Rahul Gandhi is currently on bail and the remaining cross-examination in this case will take place on January 10.
Statement was recorded in July
Rahul Gandhi is accused of making objectionable remarks against Amit Shah during an election rally in Bangalore. After this, Vijay Mishra filed a defamation case against him on 4 August 2018. Rahul Gandhi had recorded his statement in the court on 26 July 2023. During this he said that a politically motivated conspiracy was going on against him.
The Special Magistrate had granted bail to Rahul Gandhi on two sureties of Rs 25 each and the court had called Rahul to record his statement. After this the court had directed Vijay Mishra to present evidence. However, the hearing in the case was postponed to 16 December 2024 as the special judge was on leave. Now the next hearing of this case will be on January 10, in which the remaining cross-examination will be conducted.
