Beijing: The Chinese military has cautioned its armed forces against relying too much on artificial intelligence (AI), saying AI should be a supporting tool. The Chinese Army has said that soldiers should take decisions on the battlefield and not with the help of this technology. An article published on New Year’s Eve in the Chinese military’s official newspaper ‘People’s Liberation Army Daily’ said, “AI is developing rapidly, but it must remain a tool dependent on human intelligence in military decision-making.” Responsiveness, creativity and strategic adaptability remain paramount.”
What else was said in the article
The article said the Army preferred a model in which “a human plans and the AI executes.” According to the article, these technologies are used to execute strategies developed by commanders. The article states that another weakness of AI is its inability to reflect on its own actions or take responsibility for its own decisions, while soldiers make decisions based on their own plans given the circumstances.
