Plywood,MDF boards are extensively used in home and furniture. The demand for plywood board has increased manifold in the last few years. However, along with this the problem of poor quality also increased. Due to this, people used to feel cheated by using plywood boards but in future they will not have to face this problem. In fact, the plywood and MDF board industries have agreed to implement Mandatory Quality Control Norms (QCO). Giving this information, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that after initial resistance, the plywood and MDF board industries have agreed to implement mandatory quality control norms (QCO) as they have made a long-term commitment to adhere to high quality standards. The benefits have been recognized. With this, good quality products will now come in the market and the supply of fake or defective products will be stopped. With this, people will get good quality boards.
India is implementing modern standards
He said that India is implementing modern standards, which establish parity with the standards prevalent in other parts of the world, especially developed countries. The Minister said that India’s consistent focus on quality is now being recognized and appreciated within the country as well as internationally. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) had introduced QCOs for plywood, MDF boards and other wood products to boost domestic manufacturing and cut down on imports of substandard goods. Due to opposition from the domestic industry, the period of implementation of QCO was extended. These mandatory norms will be for domestic and foreign companies. Goyal said that initially there was a lot of resistance from the industry. We had several meetings with them and now finally the industry itself has realized the importance of holding itself to high quality standards, especially when they are producing that quality.
QCO will now be available on plywood
He said that 10-12 days ago the entire industry representing the manufacturing sector across the country had met and requested that QCO should be imposed on these products. “I think the message is gradually reaching more and more sectors that this (QCO) will help India’s manufacturing sector grow,” Goyal said. The government is working in mission mode to develop a strong quality ecosystem in India, with the main objective of emphasizing on superior and safety compliant products to take the economy to higher levels of development and growth.
