History News Desk!! Naib Subedar Bana Singh (English: Naib Subedar Bana Singh, born: 6 January, 1949 Kadyal village, Jammu and Kashmir) is an Indian person awarded the Paramvir Chakra. He received this honor in 1987. Not only did India’s four meetings with Pakistan take place on the battlefield, there were some other fronts also, where the brave men of India foiled Pakistan’s plans. Siachen Front is also a similar front, in which Naib Subedar Bana Singh of 8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his cleverness, bravery and courage.

life introduction

Bahadur Naib Subedar Bana Singh was born on 6 January 1949 in Kadyal village of Jammu and Kashmir. His military career started on 6 January 1969 and he joined his unit. The post which Bana Singh conquered in Siachen was later named ‘Bana Post’. Bana Singh received the Param Vir Chakra for this action. He also heard about the Kargil war. Till that time he was serving in the army.

military life

Siachen can only be imagined from a distance, and that too perhaps not very accurately. About the conditions in the mountain range located at a height of 21 thousand one hundred and fifty-three feet from the sea coast, where snow winds keep blowing at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour and where the maximum temperature is -35° C Celsius. What can be guessed? But it is true that it is an important place for India. In fact, after the Karachi Agreement in 1949, when the ceasefire line was drawn, its extension was from Khor in the north to Manawar in the south in the Jammu and Kashmir region. In this way this line goes towards the north like the glaciers of NJ9842. Not even a blade of grass grows in this area, and even breathing is extremely difficult due to the cold weather. But whatever it may be, this place is where the borders of India, Pakistan and China meet, hence it has special importance from security point of view.

As always, encroachment and provocative action was taken by Pakistan here also. Firstly, when the border was decided, it shifted 5180 square kilometers of area which would have belonged to India, to the border of China. Apart from this, he also keeps inviting foreign mountaineers and people from outside for scientific tests in that area, even though it is not his area. Apart from this, news of many such schemes keeps coming from his side which can be called encroachment and objectionable. The incident we are specifically mentioning here is of the year 1987. In this, Pakistan ordered its forces to build a post inside the Indian border on the Siachen Glacier. That place was also reserved by India considering the weather. Pakistani soldiers set up their post there and named it ‘Quaid Chowki’. It was named after the father of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

It is also very interesting to understand the structure of that post. The post was built like a fort on top of the glacier, with ice walls 1500 feet high on both sides. Pakistan had built this outpost ‘Quaid’ inside the Indian border as a big challenge, which cannot be given any other name than encroachment. Obviously, it was not possible for India to remain silent after getting information about this incident. The Indian Army made a proposal that we have to remove this post from there and take control of it. In response to this proposal, Naib Subedar Bana Singh himself came forward and said that he would go and complete this work. He was Naib Subedar in 8 Jammu Kashmir Light Infantry. He was given permission for this. Naib Subedar Bana Singh took four more companions with him and moved towards his target. According to the plan, other people of the battalion kept engaging the Pakistani enemy soldiers and on the other hand, Bana Singh and his comrades started the work of reaching that post.

Climbing the flat wall of ‘Quaid Post’, which was made of ice, was a very difficult and risky task. Even before this, Indian soldiers had tried to climb this wall many times and had failed. The night temperature had dropped to thirty degrees below zero. Strong winds were blowing. Heavy snow was falling continuously for the last three days. Due to severe cold the guns were also not working properly. Well, taking advantage of the darkness, Bana Singh and his team were moving ahead. On the way, they could also see the bodies of those Indian brave men who had lost their lives on the way to reach here.

Somehow Bana Singh along with his companions managed to reach the top. After reaching there, he divided his group into two parts and deployed them in two directions and then started throwing grenades at that ‘Quaid post’. Grenades proved effective in the bunkers built there. At the same time, the soldiers of the other group started killing the enemy soldiers who were at that post with batons. Pakistan’s Special Service Group (SSG) commandos were deployed there, who were killed in this sudden attack and escaped leaving some posts. Within a short time that post came into the hands of Indian braves from the hands of the enemies. The front was won. Bana Singh and his group captured it safely.
