Dr. Manik Saha, who has BDS and MDS degrees in “Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery”, is now the Chief Minister of Tripura. Saha was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Tripura on 15 May 2022.
Saha’s journey from dentist to Chief Minister of Tripura
Manik Saha was born on 8 January 1953 in Agartala, Tripura.
After practicing for almost a decade, in 1991 Manik Saha joined the prestigious King George’s Medical College (KGMC) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; Where he completed his postgraduate studies and obtained the degree of Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2016, Saha was a member of the Indian National Congress. Before joining the Indian National Congress, Manik Saha was a teacher at Tripura Medical College in Havaniya.
He became the President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Tripura unit from 2020 to 2022.
In April 2022, Saha was elected MLA and became the Chief Minister of Tripura. He is also the President of Tripura Cricket Association. He is also a state level badminton player.
Since the state of Tripura has only one representation in the Rajya Sabha, Manik Saha is the only MP from Tripura in the Rajya Sabha.
He successfully won 40 out of 60 seats in the Tripura Assembly and was elected as a Member of Parliament.
Biplab Kumar Deb resigned from his post on 14 May 2022, exactly a year before the assembly elections in the state. After a hastily called legislature party meeting, the BJP announced Saha’s name as his successor and said he would support the new chief minister. Saha was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Tripura on 15 May 2022.
