The Supreme Court has given an important decision for the treatment of the injured after a road accident. The court has said that the government should make such a plan. So that people can get treatment after the accident without paying any money. The Supreme Court has said that the Central Government should prepare a plan for cashless medical facilities for road accident victims during the “golden hour” period. The first hour after a serious injury is called the “golden hour.” This time is considered most important for the treatment of the injured.
In case of serious injury, proper treatment within an hour is very important. If the injured person gets treatment during this period, the chances of survival are higher. Delay increases the risk of death or disability.
What did the court say?
The Supreme Court said that many times it happens that the close and family members of the person injured in the accident are not around him. Therefore there is no one to help him. An injured person should receive the necessary treatment during the golden hour, but often the necessary treatment is denied during the golden hour. Even in such situations, hospitals sometimes wait till the arrival of the police. Their concern is about the cost of treatment. In many cases, if necessary treatment is not received during the golden hour, the injured may die. In such a situation, cashless scheme is necessary.
Government should implement the policy by March 14
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih said that under Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the responsibility of providing cashless treatment to victims of accidents during golden hours falls on the central government. The court has given the government time till March 14 to implement the scheme. The Supreme Court will hear this issue again on March 24.
