Chennai. Lakhs of devotees thronged Vaishnav temples across Tamil Nadu on Friday morning on the occasion of the auspicious Vaikuntha Ekadashi, during which the gates of heaven (Soraga Vasal) were opened allowing the presiding deity to pass through. Tamil Nadu HRD and CE Minister PK Shekhar Babu attended the ceremony at the famous Lord Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple in Srirangam, the first of the 108 Divya Desams of Vaishnava temples.
Devotees followed the Lord as he passed through Nama Perumal Soraga Vasal amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and slogans of “Ranga…Ranga”. At Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, the Srirangam Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival lasts for 20 days, divided into two parts, Pagal Pathu (morning part 10 days) and Ira Pathu (night part 10 days).
Why is Vaikuntha Ekadashi celebrated?
Let us tell you that according to religious beliefs, by observing the fast of Vaikuntha Ekadashi, all the sins of a person are destroyed and he attains salvation after death. This day is considered a special occasion to please Lord Vishnu.
