Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha alleged that former state governor Raghubar Das is a ‘controversial’ person and the ruling party BJP should tell the public the reason for his ‘removal before the completion of his tenure’.
The BJD’s reaction came after Das formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in his home state Jharkhand on Friday. While joining the BJP, Das said that as governor he worked for the people, listened to their grievances and visited 30 districts within three months.
“I have broken the myth that the post of governor is ‘Laat Saheb’,” Das said.
Former minister and MLA Arun Kumar Sahu, addressing reporters at the BJD headquarters, accused Das of working as an ‘agent’ of the BJP despite holding the post of Governor.
“Das was working as an ‘agent’ of the BJP and was a controversial figure,” Sahu told reporters. He was never a popular governor. His comment that Governors are not ‘Lat Saheb’ raises many questions, such as whether other Governors are ‘Lat Saheb’.”
Sahu said, “If Das was a popular governor, as the BJP is claiming, then why was he removed from the post unnecessarily? BJP should answer the people of Odisha in this regard.”
