'We apologize for this unintentional mistake' Mark Zuckerberg's statement created an uproar, Meta India apologized

New Delhi. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in a recent podcast, described 2024 as a year of turmoil and said that governments of many countries, including India, fell in the elections held after Covid-19. His statement created a stir in the political and social circles of India, because this claim was beyond the facts. After the controversy over this matter increased, Meta India Vice President Shivnath Thukral issued a statement and apologized. Thukral tweeted, “India is an incredibly important country for META. We would like to apologize for this unintentional mistake.”

Nishikant Dubey called the apology a victory for the public.

BJP MP and head of the IT parliamentary panel Nishikant Dubey called Meta India’s apology a victory for Indian citizens. Dubey said, “This apology is an affirmation of public confidence in the Indian Parliament and government.” He further said that in future questions and answers will be given on other matters also through social media platforms.

Ashwini Vaishnav also criticized Zuckerberg’s statement

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also termed Mark Zuckerberg’s comment as baseless. He said, “The people of India have shown their faith in the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even after the pandemic, the people of India have maintained stability.” Vaishnav termed Zuckerberg’s statement as against the facts.

Dear Honorable Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw Mark’s observation that many incumbent parties were not re-elected in 2024 elections holds true for several countries, BUT not India. We would like to apologize for this inadvertent error. India remains an incredibly important country…

There was an uproar on social media

There were many reactions on social media regarding Zuckerberg’s statement. While some people termed it as Meta’s negligence, some said that such statements can send a wrong message globally. This development has further intensified the demand to rein in social media companies and ensure their accountability. Indian leaders say that strict action will be taken in such cases in future.
