Seoul: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is facing impeachment, was interrogated by investigating agencies for about 10 hours on Wednesday. Taken to a detention center near the country’s capital Seoul. Earlier, he was questioned by officials of law enforcement agencies in connection with the imposition of martial law last month.
Yoon was interrogated for about 10 hours by the country’s anti-corruption agency after being detained at his presidential residence. “The rule of law in this country has completely collapsed,” Yoon said in a video message recorded before being taken to the anti-corruption agency’s headquarters.
Had to face impeachment for imposing martial law
He had been hiding in his Hannam-dong residence in the capital Seoul for several weeks and had vowed to “fight to the end” against attempts to remove him from power. The President had declared martial law on December 3 last year. This step of the President had surprised the entire country. Although the martial law had ended within a few hours, after this a feeling of dissatisfaction spread against the President in the country and the opposition parties started demanding impeachment action against him.
