New Delhi, January 18 (IANS). In the Delhi Assembly elections, Congress has fielded senior leader Sandeep Dixit from New Delhi seat. On this seat, he is competing against Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pravesh Verma. This seat has become a question of legacy for Sandeep Dikshit, because his mother and three-time Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit had earlier won this seat.
Sandeep Dikshit is the son of senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit. For him, the electoral challenge on New Delhi seat is not just personal but also related to political legacy. Sheila Dikshit had won this seat in 2008 when this seat came into existence. Before this she was MLA from Gol Market. The then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had to face defeat from Arvind Kejriwal in the 2013 assembly elections.
Before joining politics, Sandeep Dixit participated in many important activities related to social development. He headed a social development group called ‘Signal Information and Research Agency’. He has also worked as a faculty member at OP Jindal Global University, Sonipat.
Sandeep Dixit has a master’s degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and subsequently studied rural development. For more than 15 years, Sandeep Dixit has worked on rural development and human development issues in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Sandeep Dixit, who was MP from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009, is always in opposition to Arvind Kejriwal. Whenever Congress tried to form an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party, Sandeep Dixit has opposed it. In 2019, when the alliance between Congress and AAP was discussed, Sandeep had said that there is nothing bigger than self-respect. We cannot abandon our honor and stand with them.
Recently, Aam Aadmi Party leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh had made serious allegations against Sandeep Dixit. AAP leaders had accused him of taking crores of rupees from BJP and Congress and colluding with BJP to defeat AAP.
Sandeep Dixit’s image has been created as a clean and educated leader, who can create new hope for Congress. Dixit was born on 15 August 1964. His father Vinod Dixit was an IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. Sandeep Dixit’s wife’s name is Rashmi Dixit and he also has a son.
