New Delhi, January 22 (IANS). Just before the Delhi Assembly elections, after the issue of Purvanchalis, a dispute has started between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP on the issue of Punjabis.
In the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP candidate Pravesh Verma had raised the question that Punjab number vehicles are seen roaming around in Delhi a lot and January 26 is also near. After his statement, Aam Aadmi Party verbally attacked him and AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is seen quarreling with BJP on this issue.
Arvind Kejriwal, opening a front on this issue since Wednesday morning, wrote through social media, “Lakhs of Punjabis live in Delhi, whose families and their ancestors have made countless sacrifices for the country. There are also lakhs of Punjabi refugees in Delhi. Those who left everything and came to Delhi during the difficult period of partition, their families also endured countless tortures. What the BJP leaders are saying today is their martyrdom. They are insulting the sacrifice.
Kejriwal further said, “I am very pained to hear this statement. Delhi has been built by Punjabis. By calling Punjabis a threat to the country, BJP has insulted lakhs of Punjabis living in Delhi. BJP should apologize to Punjabis.”
After this, Arvind Kejriwal also said in the press conference that the way Pravesh Verma has questioned the contribution of Punjabis. Pravesh Verma said that vehicles from Punjab are roaming, don’t know who are the people. There could be a security threat for 26 January Republic Day. On this, Arvind Kejriwal said, “So are all Punjabis terrorists? Are all Punjabis traitors? Are all Punjabis a threat to the country? Punjabis have beautified Delhi.”
He said that Punjabis have a huge contribution in Delhi. His ancestors had sacrificed their lives for the country. When Partition took place in 1947, lakhs of Punjabis came to Delhi from Pakistan. He had seen many hardships and plights. Today this little boy has come to challenge the Punjabis of Delhi. We strongly oppose this. We say that Amit Shah should apologize for this. Amit Shah should apologize to Punjabis from the entire country.
