On the Waqf Amendment Bill, members of the Parliamentary Panel have suggested 572 amendments in the draft law, on which there is a conflict between the government and the opposition.
Late on Sunday night, a consolidated list of amendments was broadcast by the Joint Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill under the chairmanship of BJP leader Jagdambika Pal, when the panel hearing reached the final stage.
The committee will discuss the block-by-block amendments in its meeting on Monday.
Members of the BJP and the opposition have introduced amendments on the bill. However, no BJP allies are named in the list of members presenting the amendment.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was sent to the Joint Committee of Parliament on August 8 after Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju was introduced in the Lok Sabha.
The Bill aims to amend the Waqf Act 1995, so that the problems and challenges faced in the regulation and management of Waqf properties can be resolved.
