Priyadarshan started writing during college
Born on 30 January 1957, Priyadarshan completed his studies from the Government Model School in Trivandrum. He earned a Master of Arts degree in philosophy. His father was a college librarian. It was because of his father that Priyadarshan was interested in books. He used to study a lot in his teenage age and while studying in college, he started writing small plays and skits for All India Radio.
Career started with the help of Mohanlal
Priyadarshan was influenced by director P Venu’s films. At that time his friends included Mohanlal, MG Srikumar, Suresh Kumar, Sanal Kumar, Jagdish, Manianpila Raju and Ashok Kumar. This was the time when Mohanlal stepped into films. His friends followed him to Chennai to find a chance in films. With the help of Mohanlal, Priyadarshan got a chance to work as a supporting screenwriter in some films and started writing the screenplay, which also got some success. Eventually he had to return to Kerala.
40 years to the industry
Priyadarshan has been working as a director and screenwriter in Indian cinema for the last 40 years. He has directed more than 95 films mainly in 4 Indian languages Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Break taken from Bollywood
Priyadarshan started his career in Malayalam cinema in the early 1980s and was active in the 1980s and 1990s. In the 2000s, he moved to Bollywood (Hindi film industry) and remained active for a whole decade. In 2013, he announced that ‘Rangrez’ would be his last Hindi film for some time and he focused on Malayalam cinema. Among his best films, ‘Majha Payunnu Maddalam Kottunnu’, ‘Thalwattam’, ‘Vellankalude Nadu’, ‘Chitram’, ‘Vandanam’, ‘Kilukkam’, ‘Abhimanyu’, ‘Mithunam’, ‘Theanmavin Kombath’, ‘Kala Pani’ and ‘Chandralekha’ is included. Talking about Bollywood, he made a comeback with ‘Hungama 2’ in the year 2021, but this film could not do anything special. Broken relationship after 16 years of marriage
Talking about personal life, Priyadarshan married actress Lisy Lakshmi on 13 December 1990. However, their relationship broke up in 2016 and the couple divorced. They have two children Kalyani and Siddharth.
