Kalpana Chawla
New Delhi: The day of February 1 is settled in the heart of the world’s space scientists. On the same date in the year 2003, the US Space Shuttle Columbia crashed while returning after finishing its space mission and all seven astronauts aboard it died. Kalpana Chawla of Indian origin was also killed in this accident. Kalpana, who went as a mission expert in Colombia, was born on July 1, 1961 in Karnal, Haryana in India and was the first woman to study at Punjab Engineering College.
Britain separated from the European Union
On 1 February 2020, Britain separated from the European Union. Britain is the first country to exit EU. UK was a member of the EU for 47 years. The people of Britain voted in support of it in June 2016. On February 1, 2021, the army attacked several leaders, including top leader Aung San Suu Kyi, in the South East Asian nation Myanmar, which was moving towards democracy. Suu Kyi struggled for years over the demand for democracy, she remained under house arrest and also received the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts. Myanmar was internationally isolated from 1962 and there was military rule for five decades.
