In Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, authorities have banned begging and giving and warned of punitive action against those who do so. Begging and giving in Indore district of the state has already been banned.
Bhopal District Magistrate Kaushalendra Vikram Singh on Monday evening banned begging and giving begging in the order issued under Section 163 (2) of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS).
The order said that many beggars who begged the traffic signal have been found to be involved in criminal activities and drug addiction and their presence on the traffic signal pose a threat to accidents.
It said that begging and begging in the entire Bhopal district has been completely banned. The order said, “Legal action will be taken against the person who gives anything in the form of beggars to the beggars.
It said that cases will be registered against those who violate the restrictive order of the administration against begging under the relevant legal provisions.
The order said that a shelter site located in Community Health Center Kolar (in Bhopal) has been reserved for the shelter of beggars.
Last year, Indore district administration also banned begging and giving.
