Indian Consulate in Marseille: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will jointly inaugurate the Indian Consulate in Marsile on 12 February. The embassy will be inaugurated during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France. Marsile is a city south of France on the Mediterranean coast. The opening of the Indian Consulate in Marsile was announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France in 2023.
Marsile is important in strategic point of view
Marsile is a very important city strategically and Bharat is also willing to use the Marsile port. The special thing is that there is no role or appearance of any other foreign power here. The port of Marsile is France’s largest port and is one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean Sea. The port plays a very important role in the import and export of France. It is also seen as an entrance for the movement of goods between Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.
PM Modi announced in 2023
In 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the opening of a consulate in Marsile, addressing the Indian community at La Scene Musicel. The consulate is India’s second diplomatic mission after the embassy in Paris. This will help in consulate services. People will no longer have to travel to the capital Paris for related work related to the consulate.
Marsile was the base of Indian soldiers in the First World War
PM Modi and Macron will also pay tribute to about 900 Indian soldiers fighting in the First World War. During the First World War, Marsile was a base of Indian soldiers in France. An Indian monument in honor of the martyred Indian soldiers was unveiled by Field Marshal Sir William Birdwood in July 1925.
