What happened in the last election?
In the 2020 election, Arvind Kejriwal defeated BJP’s Sunil Kumar Yadav by 21,687 votes. This constituency comes under the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, where BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj defeated AAP candidate Somnath Bharti by 78,370 votes in the 2024 general election.
Arvind Kejriwal first won the seat in 2013 when he defeated senior Congress leader and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. In 2015 too, he defeated both BJP and Congress.
BJP and Congress performance
BJP: It has not been able to win this seat since 1977. This time the party’s strategy focuses on defeating Arvind Kejriwal.
Congress: Congress is trying to bring back its old strength in this election. Sandeep Dixit wants to avenge the defeat of his mother Sheila Dixit on this seat.
Will BJP return to power in Delhi?
If the BJP wins in the Delhi Assembly this time, it will return to power of the party after 26 years. On the other hand, the Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 years till 2013, is now struggling to return.
Now the thing to see will be whether Arvind Kejriwal will again win the New Delhi seat, or will BJP and Congress be able to make a big upset? Everyone’s eyes are on the results.
