Elon Musk -owned electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc. has officially started its recruitment process in India, which is an important step towards long -awaited admission in the domestic market.
On Monday, the veteran company of Electric Vehicles (EV) posted a job list for the post of Consumer Engagement Manager in Mumbai Metropolitan area on LinkedIn. This role is a full-time, on-site position, which reflects Tesla’s commitment to create a direct presence in the country.
Tesla’s latest recruitment activity in line with its broad strategy to expand into India. The company has recently invited applications for a total of 13 jobs, including both customer-support and operational roles.
The incident took place after an important meeting between Tesla CEO Allen Musk and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 February at Washington DC.
The discussion between the two focused on strengthening India-US cooperation in innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence and sustainable development. Both also discussed emerging technologies, entrepreneurship and governance – which match Tesla’s perspective for India.
The presence of a global leading company Tesla in India is limited in India, but has been considering expansion over the years.
With the latest job posting, the company is taking concrete steps to establish itself in the world’s third largest automobile market. Industry experts believe that Tesla’s recruitment initiative may be a precursor towards establishing sales and service operations in India by the company and eventually starting manufacturing.
The step is in line with the Government of India’s effort to adopt electric vehicles and promote local levels, which is supported by incentives under the Production Promotion (PLI) scheme.
Although Tesla has not given any official deadline for launch in India, its active recruitment shows that preparations are in full swing.
In December, Musk revealed that Starlink’s satellite internet services are closed in India, as the company’s two equipment was confiscated by the authorities – one from the area affected by the armed struggle and the other from the area associated with drug trafficking.
In addition, Musk is advocating a reduction in tariffs on Tesla’s electric vehicles. He expressed his desire to export Tesla’s affordable EV model to India, provided that the country reduces its import duty.
