Lucknow, 20 February (IANS). The Yogi government has taken several effective steps to provide quality and cheap medical facilities to the people of the state. The result of this is that Uttar Pradesh, called the sick state before the year 2017, has emerged as a perfect state in health services today. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna in his financial year 2025-26 budget speech apprised about the achievements of health services and new records.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said that eight years ago, every year there used to be large -scale deaths due to infectious diseases in various areas of the state. During that time, the identity, prevention and treatment of diseases in the state was not available to the general public. The efficiency with which the Yogi government faced this disastrous in the state during the global disease was praised globally. Today, the way medical facilities have been spread in the state and continuously happening, it is amazing.
He informed that at present there are 80 medical colleges in the state, out of which 44 are operated by the state government and 36 are in the private sector. Two AIIMS and IMS, BHU, Varanasi and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh are operated in the state. In the year 2024-2025, new medical colleges have been established in 13 Smaasi Medical College and PPP mode in three districts, Maharajganj, Sambhal and Shamli. At present, 11,800 seats of MBBS and 3,971 seats of PG are available in state and private sector medical colleges, medical institutions, universities in the state.
The Finance Minister said that the central government has announced a total of 10,000 seats for UG, PG in the year 2025-2026, out of which 1,500 seats will be received by Uttar Pradesh. A system of about Rs 2,066 crore is proposed for this. In the year 2017, the total number of super specialty seats in government medical colleges was 120. The number of seats was increased to 250 in the academic session 2024-2025. A provision of Rs 27 crore and Rs 25 crore is proposed for the establishment of an autonomous state medical college in Ballia and Balrampur. At the same time, Ayushman cards of 5.13 crore people have been made under the Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Scheme.
He informed that Uttar Pradesh is at first place in the entire country in making Ayushman card. Primary health units are being upgraded as Ayushman Arogya Temple. Currently a total of 22,681 Ayushman Arogya Temple are established. Telecasement from sub-centers started to provide medical facilities in rural areas from July 2020. Free dialysis services are being provided on PPP mode, funded by the National Health Mission in the state. The National Health Mission in the state is providing free service of CT scan in district hospitals on PPP mode.
He said that at present 2,110 Ayurvedic, 254 Unani and 1,585 homeopathic hospitals as well as 8 Ayurvedic colleges and affiliated hospitals, two Greek colleges and their affiliated hospitals and 9 homeopathic colleges and their related hospitals are operated in various districts of the state. In the financial year 2025-2026, the construction work of Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University, Gorakhpur is completed, the construction work of the Government Ayurvedic College in the district Ayodhya, it is targeted to establish a Government Homeopathic Medical College in Varanasi district.
Yogi government’s Finance Minister Suresh Khanna also informed the change in the Water Life Mission under the leadership of the double engine government. He said that the importance of drinking water being available in the house can understand the one who does not have this facility and whose women, children have to leave the house every day to bring water from far away for drinking water. These families have got a lot of relief due to water available from taps in homes. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a target has been set to provide pure drinking water by providing functional home tap combinations to all 2.67 crore rural families of the state. Regarding the said target, the working house tap combination has been provided in 2.34 crore houses.
The Finance Minister said that a total of 67 projects related to sewerage have been approved to keep the Ganga free from pollution and prevent the flow of contaminated water in it, whose total sanctioned cost is Rs 14,823 crore. 39 projects are being completed till the present and the remaining projects are under construction. Under the Water Life Mission, a provision of Rs 4,500 crore is proposed for community contribution for rural drinking water schemes and crores of rupees for maintenance and operation under the Water Jeevan Mission Scheme. A provision of Rs 1,100 crore has been proposed for the Chief Minister’s Small Irrigation Scheme.
