For the first time after nearly 40 years, full census figures have been released in Iraq. On Monday, Iraqi officials announced to reach the country’s population to 4.61 crore i.e. 46.1 million. The figure is about 1.45 crores, or 14.5 million more than the informal calculation of 2009, in which the country’s population was estimated to be 3.16 crore, or 31.6 million.
Iraqi officials have described this census as a milestone. Iraqi officials say that the results of this census will not only help in understanding the current state of the country, but will also provide the necessary data for future plans and resource distribution.
In a press conference organized to announce the census data, Iraqi Planning Minister Mohammad Tamim said that this census shows the government’s determination to improve the situation in the country. He also said that the results of the census will play an important role in the policy formulation and scheme required for the development of Iraq.

After the decades of war and instability, the Iraqi government is now trying to strengthen security reforms in the country and give life to the economy during the regional upheaval time. The government is constantly trying to bring peace and stability in the country.
Population in urban areas
According to the census, about 70.2 percent of people in Iraq live in urban areas, while the urban population of Kurdish region is 84.6 percent.
