Fort of Lahore
Lahore: An American researcher has identified around 100 monuments a time of the Sikh Empire (1799–1849) at the Lahore Fort, reflecting its historical importance. About 30 of these monuments are not present today. The Government Body ‘Wald City of Lahore Authority’ (WCLA) has appointed Dr. Tarunjit Singh Butalia to write a ‘Tour Guidebook’ at Lahore Fort during Sikh rule to provide comprehensive information of Lahore Fort and its historical importance during the Sikh Empire.
Lahore Fort was the center of the Sikh Empire
Dr. Butaliya said in an interview to ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “Lahore Fort is an emotional monument in the Sikh psyche, which has been a power center for the Sikh Empire for almost half a century.” He said, “It holds a special place in my heart, because according to Persian records, I had worked on the posts of Sikh Durbar,” he said in India. ” It is very important for Sikhs to know that in 1947, Sikh heritage and place of worship divided into two parts of the world, for a long time, Sikhs of India remained cut off from their historical sites in Pakistan.
History of Lahore Fort
The Mughal history of the Lahore Fort begins in the 16th century when it was built by Emperor Akbar. In addition, this fort remained under the Sikh Empire for half a century. In the year 1799, the Sikh ruler of Punjab won the fort and remained under his control till 1849. The British Empire then converted it into an army cantonment. Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Maharaja Kharak Singh, Kanwar Naunihal Singh and Maharaja Sher Singh preserved many structures of the fort and built several new structures including Hazuri Bagh and its magnificent Baradari.
