New Delhi, 2 March (IANS). So far, more than 15 thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened across the country and the government has targeted to increase it to 25 thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendra by 31 March 2027.
On the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, every year 7 March is celebrated as ‘Jan Aushadhi Day’ with the aim of raising awareness about the scheme and promoting generic medicines.
Like previous years, week -long programs have been planned at various places across the country from 1 to 7 March.
On the second day of the 7th Jan Aushadhi Day 2025, programs were held in the morning at the heritage sites of 25 different monuments across the country.
Health camps were organized at 500 places across the country to take care of senior citizens and keep the country’s traditions and cultures intact.
Various types of medical examinations were conducted in these health camps including blood pressure check, sugar level check, free doctors consultation etc. so that the importance of health and awareness about the Prime Minister Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Project (PMBJP) can be spread.
On Sunday, a heritage walk was organized at 25 places across the country including Hauz Khas of New Delhi.
The sale of Jan Aushadhi Kendras providing quality medicines at affordable prices has seen 200 times increase in the last 10 years, which has saved the citizens of Rs 30,000 crore.
The number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has increased by 180 times in the last decade.
The scheme launched in November 2008 is being implemented through the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI).
It is noteworthy that PMBJP sold Rs 1,470 crore (on MRP), which saved about Rs 7,350 crore to citizens in the financial year 2023-24.
