There is a stir in state politics over prohibition in view of Bihar assembly elections. There is a ban on the sale of liquor in Nitish Kumar’s government. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has announced to re -implement the Todi Act. At the same time, Congress MLA Pratima Das has said that if the Grand Alliance government is formed in Bihar, then the sale of liquor in the state will start again, like earlier from liquor shops. His statement came at a time when Tejashwi Yadav has made many big announcements keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections. Tejashwi Yadav has promised to re -enforce the TADI law.
Let us tell you that the NDA government is currently running under the leadership of Nitish Kumar in Bihar. As soon as the government was formed, Nitish Kumar announced a ban on liquor and enacted strict laws on the sale of liquor. Action is being taken against those selling liquor, but the opposition alleges that the ban has failed completely.
Congress MLA claims, liquor shops will open if government is formed
Moving one step ahead of Tejashwi Yadav, the Congress said that if our government is formed, we will reopen liquor shops in Bihar. The ban on alcohol is a means of harassing the poor. At the same time, the Minister of prohibition said that they are provoking people.
Let us tell you that the Congress is an important partner of RJD in the Grand Alliance, but there is a difference in the attitude of both of them. The Congress MLA has openly announced to abolish the prohibition law, while the RJD has not yet made any direct statement on it. Tejashwi Yadav has said that no compromise will be made on drug addiction, but only the old law will be implemented for toddy.
Old toddy law will apply again: Tejashwi Yadav
Tejashwi Yadav also said that Lalu Prasad had removed the tax on toddy earlier and now it will be reconsidered. He alleged that liquor ban in Bihar has completely failed and the law has become a weapon of the police, through which they are colluding with smugglers. He also said that since the implementation of liquor ban in 2016, 12 lakh 79 thousand arrests have been made so far, that is, on an average 12 thousand people are being arrested every month.
He said that the Pasi community is being the most affected by this law, which is about 2% of the total population. Tejashwi said that he is facing social and economic harassment. Now it remains to be seen what will be the effect of this internal differences on the politics of Bihar within the Grand Alliance and how will the public react to it?
