Bengaluru, March 8 (IANS). 116 of the 1,314 board seats of Indian unicorn companies are with women, which is 5.8 percent of the total seats. This information was given in a latest report released on Saturday. This report throws light on the occasion of improving gender diversity in Unicorn Ecosystem in the country.
Conversely, Delalite’s recent ‘Woman in the Bedroom: A Global Supportive’ report, women in Indian Inc. in 2023 had 18.3 percent board seats, while the global average is 23.3 percent.
According to a private market intelligence platform, private circle research, 48 percent of the 116 unicorn companies at the company level had at least one female director in the board, while only 11 percent of them had more than one female director.
This is a sign of continuous efforts by Indian Unicorn to bridge the gender gap in the boardroom.
Research Director of Private Research Murali Loganathan said, “It has been going on for a long time that companies that have more diversion boards perform financially better. McInese’s 2023 diversity Matters Even Peacock Report also found that companies with more divers do better financial performances.”
According to the analysis, female directors (16) were the highest representation in Finance Unicorn compared to unicorn of the second region. This was followed by software (8), retail (7), insurance (5), travel and hospitality (5), and emerging technology (4) unicorn.
Many unicorn have come forward in their board for their commitment to boardroom diversity with more than one female directors.
The presence of many women in their board sets a positive example for broader ecosystem, indicating that gender-intelligent leadership is possible and beneficial for business development.
The report said that according to the March 2024 edition of the women’s report in the board room, the representation of women in the boardroom has increased by 3.6 percent since 2022 and the estimated deadline for obtaining a gender parity has also decreased by seven years.
