Nom Penh (Cambodia), Amrit Thoughts: A torso of a statue of Buddha is found in the centuries -old Ankorwat temple complex of Cambodia, which matches a head found in this place about a century ago. It is believed that this torso is of the 12th or 13th century statue. It was discovered last month during an excavation by Cambodian and a team of Indian experts at Ankor’s Ta Proham Temple. Archaeologist Nath Simon said this week that this statue is found with 29 pieces, which appear to be part of the same statue.
Nath Simon told the ‘Associated Press’ on the phone from the Seam Reap province, “When we dug up this statue, it was a great surprise for us because we had only got only small pieces.” He described the design of the statue and said that it showed carved jewelery, garments and waistband. The alleged head of the idol was discovered in the same temple during the French colonial period in 1927, and is currently placed at the main national museum in Cambodia in the capital Nom Penh. According to the Tourism Ministry of Cambodia, the site is Cambodia’s most popular tourist attraction and in 2024, about one million international tourists came.
