In 2013, three players from Rajasthan Royals were caught on match fixing. Three players – S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, and Ankit Chavan – were arrested on charges of spot fixing. All three players were accused of taking money from bookies. As a result, the BCCI banned these three players for a lifetime.
Apart from this, Chennai Super Kings Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra were also accused of being involved in betting. Due to which both teams were also banned for two years (2016 and 2017).
In 2022, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) revealed that during the 2019 IPL session, a betting network took action on the basis of information received from Pakistan.
