New Delhi, March 19 (IANS). The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly attacked the BJP government over the deteriorating law and order in Delhi. Senior party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said on Wednesday that despite being a ‘double engine government’, crimes are increasing in the capital and there is an atmosphere of panic among the people. Recently, incidents of killing an elderly couple in Kohat Enclave and robbery of Rs 80 lakh in Fatehpuri have raised serious questions on the security system of the national capital.
Saurabh Bhardwaj said during the press conference that the BJP government has completely failed to maintain law and order in Delhi. According to data from NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau), every fourth crime against the elderly in the country is in Delhi. The central government has been handling the responsibility of law and order of Delhi for the last 11 years, but there was no attempt to fill the vacant posts in the police, which has further worsened.
The AAP leader said that the bodies of a 70 -year -old elderly and his wife were found in Kohat Enclave, a posh area of Delhi on Tuesday. For three days, the dead body remained in the house and no one came to know. In this murder for the purpose of robbery, the elderly throat was pressed with a nebulizer pipe and his wife was killed with an iron rod. The incident took place in the neighborhood of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, which has exposed the law and order poll.
He said that in Fatehpuri on Tuesday evening, criminals also looted Rs 80 lakh from a businessman at gunpoint. The incident occurred in Peak Hour, when there is a huge crowd in the market. The accused have been imprisoned in CCTV footage, but no arrests have been made so far. Earlier, in February, another elderly person was killed and their medical equipment was robbed.
Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that the Delhi Police had been politicized. The BJP used the police during the elections and now it will not take any action against them.
He said that there is a huge shortage of staff in Delhi Police. Half of the sanctioned posts in the police stations are lying vacant, which is weakening the investigation and security of crimes.
The AAP leader also targeted Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. He said, “The Chief Minister (Union) will not be able to write a letter to the Home Minister, but at least can meet the families of the victims.”
He also said that in Delhi only in 30 percent of the cases, the charge sheet is filed, due to which the criminals are strong. The responsibility of law and order in Delhi is in the hands of the Central Government and no concrete steps have been taken to improve the police system in the last 11 years. He demanded the central government to recruit a new recruitment in the police force at the earliest.
AAP has been an attacker on the BJP and the central government for a long time over the increasing crimes in Delhi. The party says that despite the responsibility of law and order being in the hands of the Center, the situation is continuously deteriorating.
