New Delhi: Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that terrorism will be destroyed with determination and terrorists will either go to jail or in the world. He said this while answering the supplementary questions during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha. Nityanand Rai said that due to the drastic steps taken under the policy of not tolerating terrorism at all, there has been a decrease of 71 percent in terrorist activities in the country.
NIA’s scope increased after amendment
He was asked what achievements have been achieved by the investigating agency after amending the NIA Act in 2019. Rai said that the cases which the NIA investigated in the past days, it was seen in many that the accused are outside the country. He said, “NIA could not investigate such cases and take action against these people as it was out of its jurisdiction.” Therefore, in 2019, the NIA Act was amended and enhanced the agency’s workpiece. ”He said that under the amendment, the NIA was also given the right to use ammunition, human trafficking, crime related to cyber terrorism and the right to investigate under the Explosive Material Act. This became possible by expanding the jurisdiction of the NIA. He said, “The NIA Act was strengthened by amending.”
Rai said that NIA also achieved achievements after amending the Act. He said “its jurisdiction increased with amendment in 2019.” Due to this, the Indian High Commissions of Ottawa are investigating six cases including attacks on the consulate in San Francisco, in which terrorist incidents have taken place outside India. The NIA is investigating 23 cases of 23 bomb blasts of human photographs and a cyber crime case.
A total of 652 cases were registered
The minister said that after the US was deported by the US, there have also been cases of human trafficking in the inquiry by the NIA. He said that the NIA is investigating by registering a case against the agents and conspirators involved in it. He said that the NIA has filed a total of 652 cases since the establishment (till 12 March 2025), out of which the verdict has been pronounced in 157 cases, 150 cases have been convicted and accused have been filed in 516 cases. Rai also said that in 652 cases registered by the NIA, 4,232 accused have been arrested so far, out of which 625 accused have been convicted.
Rai also stated in response to supplementary questions that the NIA has seized or attached a total of 551 properties under the illegal activities (prevention) Act, which is priced at Rs 116.27 crore. These include both movable and immovable assets. He said “Narendra Modi government’s policy against terrorism is” not to tolerate “. Terrorism has declined due to the harsh actions of the government. The laws were made rigid. Legal structures were strengthened. Coordination between security and intelligence agencies was increased. The multi -agency center was re -constituted. Special forces were formed in the states. Security forces were modernized. The economic spine of terrorism has been broken. More steps have been taken. ”
57 people were declared terrorists
Rai said that after intensive investigation, 57 persons have been declared terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, nine organizations were declared a terrorist organization and 23 organizations were declared an illegal organization. Without naming anyone, he said, “Earlier terrorists used to glorify and they were given delicious dishes, but today the action being taken under the policy of not tolerating terrorism has reduced by 71 percent in terrorist activities in the country. He said that terrorism would be destroyed with determination and the terrorists will either go to jail or in the world.
In response to the CPI’s Sandosh Kumar P supplementary question, Rai said that the NIA is doing its work promptly. He said that the investigating agency is making concoctions on the people who are facing some problem from the action against the terrorists. He said that the 2008 Mumbai attack was investigated by ANI but during such investigation, many obstructions arise as the wires of terrorists are connected abroad. “That’s why the investigation was interrupted.” Its scope was increased by amending the NIA Act so that there could be a thorough investigation into terrorist cases.
