The Punjab and Haryana Police took strict action against the peasant movement. Yesterday evening, Punjab Police detained protesting farmers along the Shambhu Khanouri border. Farmer leader Saravan Singh Pandher was taken into custody. Jagjit Singh Dalewal was taken to the hospital. The protesting farmers were then taken into custody and taken to the police station. Jagjit Singh Dalewal was transferred from Patiala to Jalandhar at midnight and from there to Punjab Medical Sciences.
After this, the Haryana Police broke the sheds of the protesting farmers. Cement barricades were removed and the border was opened for traffic. Farmers were camping at the border for 13 months on 12 demands, but their demands were not met. Dharna, demonstrations, slogans, shutdowns, hunger strikes and even fast unto deaths. February 13, 2024 – Farmers set out to travel towards Delhi and they were stopped by police on Shambhu Khanouri border.
21 February 2024 – Farmers clashed with police and Shubhakaran of Bathinda died. The police arrested the farmers.
April 17, 2024 – Farmers blocked the railway track demanding the release of the arrested farmers.
September 2, 2024 – The Supreme Court formed a committee to open the Shambhu Khanouri border.
November 18, 2024 – Farmers announced to travel towards Delhi on 6 December, 2024.
November 26, 2024 – Police arrested Jagjit Singh Dalewal and started a hunger strike.
6 December 2024- Farmers tried to travel to Delhi, but the police fired tear gas shells and dispersed them.
8 December 2024- Farmers tried to travel towards Delhi, but the police did not allow them to enter Haryana.
14 December 2024- Farmers tried to travel to Delhi again, but Haryana Police did not allow them to move forward.
30 December 2024 – Farmers shut down Punjab. Buses and trains were stopped.
January 4, 2025- On the Shambhu Khanouri border, farmers called a mahapanchayat and reached there on Dalewal stretcher.
February 14, 2025- The first meeting of the central government with farmers was inconclusive.
22 February 2025- The second meeting of farmers with the central government was also inconclusive.
March 19- 7th meeting between the Center and the farmers was inconclusive. The Punjab-Haryana police took action and evacuated the border.
