New Delhi, March 22 (IANS). The first general meeting of the Indian Himalayan Nalanda Buddhist Tradition Council (IHCNBT) ended in New Delhi on Saturday. Important issues related to Buddhism were discussed in this meeting.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Our country is the land of Buddha and the whole world knows it as the land of Buddha. As a great nation, the Narendra Modi government has made important efforts to preserve the Nalanda tradition. India has given a message of peace in the whole world through Buddhism. Especially we are constantly trying to maintain peace in the Himalayan belts.”
Talking to the media, he said that the Waqf Amendment Bill will be brought to the Rajya Sabha after being introduced in the Lok Sabha.
Rijiju clarified, “We will discuss this bill in detail. Muslim organizations also know that this bill is not to grab the property of Muslims. Through this, transparency will increase and the poor and women will benefit. It is for the arrangement, not to snatch someone’s property.”
He further said, “Waqf has become a political subject today. One community wishes for peace, while the other tries to spread unrest. People understand that such a demand is against baseless and constitution. India is a democratic country and there can be no violation of the rights of citizens here.”
On the possibility of giving Bharat Ratna to the Dalai Lama, Kiren Rijiju said that the government will take a decision on this.
