According to Vastu Shastra, it is not considered auspicious to keep idols or photos of certain deities in the temple of the house. Along with Vastu Shastra, this subject is also mentioned in Garuda Purana, Agni Purana, Narada Samhita etc. According to the 43rd chapter of Agni Purana, broken sculptures should not be kept in the house. Broken or damaged sculptures bring misfortune. If an idol or photo is fragmented, it should be immersed in a holy river. Along with this, it is also not considered good to keep idols of some other deities.

Statues of Hanuman and Ganesh facing south direction should not be kept in the house. Shared sculptures of both the gods should be kept in the house. The south direction is considered the direction of Yamraj. Worshiping these idols in the temple is considered very auspicious. According to the Kashi section of Skanda Purana, the idol of Hanuman ji should not be kept in an angry posture in the house.
