The meeting to be chaired by Chief Electoral Officer HR Srinivas will include district level sweep nodal officers. According to informed sources, special discussions will be held during this meeting to increase the voting percentage. In connection with the meeting, Under Secretary of Election Department Pramod Kumar has sent a letter to the DM of all the districts.
There will be discussion on increasing voting percentage in election
During the assembly and Lok Sabha elections of Bihar, voting has not been held as expected yet. This is the reason that a strategy is being made by the Commission to increase the voting percentage. In the meeting, it will be considered how the voters’ participation should be increased to increase the voting percentage. All polling booths in the state are ready to divide into three categories. This division will be done on the basis of voting percentage. The first category will include booths where voting is high. The second category will place booths where the voting percentage is the lowest, while the third category will include booths where moderate voting has been held.
Commission will conduct awareness campaign
There is a preparation to conduct separate awareness campaigns regarding the booths of these three categories. The process of preparing voter list, amending and adding new names to the list is already being carried out by the Election Commission. The final voter list has been released on the basis of the date of January 1, 2025. Officials of the Election Commission of Bihar say that this time the target has been set to move the polling percentage above the national average in the state.
During the last assembly election held in 2020, Bihar had 57.34 percent polling but the voting percentage was reduced during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During the last Lok Sabha election, the state had 56.28 percent polling. For this reason, the Commission has started an exercise to increase the voting percentage during the upcoming assembly elections.
