तेजी से बढ़ रही ऊर्जा आपूर्ति और खपत, भारत में रिन्यूएबल एनर्जी की अपार संभावनाएं : केंद्र

New Delhi, March 29 (IANS). The central government said on Saturday that the country is experiencing stable and healthy growth in both energy supply and consumption. Along with this, there is immense possibilities of renewable energy generation in India, which was 21,09,655 MW by March 2024.

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, about 55 percent of the capacity of energy production from wind energy was about 55 percent 11,63,856 MW. This is followed by 7,48,990 MW of solar energy and 1,33,410 MW from large hydro.

More than half of the renewable energy generation is focused in four states 20.3 percent Rajasthan, 11.8 percent Maharashtra, 10.5 percent in Gujarat and 9.8 percent in Karnataka.

There has also been a great increase in power generation in the last few years.

As of 31 March 2015, it has increased from 81,593 MW to 1,98,213 MW by 31 March 2024, which is a CAGR of 10.36 percent in the last few years.

GDP has also increased considerably in the last few years with renewable resources (including both utility and non-use).

Statistics suggest that it has increased to 3,70,320 gigwott during FY 2023-24 from 2,05,608 gggawat electricity produced during FY 2014-15, which is a CAGR increase of 6.76 percent in the last few years.

India has also seen a sufficient increase in per capita consumption of energy in the last few years. During the financial year 2014-15, it has increased from 14,682 mega joule/person to 18,410 mega joule/person during FY 2023-24, which is a CAGR increase of 2.55 percent in the previous years.

Electricity use has improved over the years by reducing the damage caused by transmission and distribution.

The ministry said, “Damage caused by transmission and distribution, which was about 23 percent during FY 2014-15, has come down to about 17 percent during FY 2023-24.”

In all major energy consumed areas, the industry sector has seen maximum expansion during FY 2023-24. All other areas like commercial and public service, residential, agriculture and forestry have also increased continuously in this period.
