Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Friday supported the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, saying that the purpose of this law is to promote communal unity across India and provide justice to the majority of the Muslim community.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha over the passage of the bill, Athawale said, “This bill is to provide justice to all Muslims – about 90 percent of them. It is not unconstitutional. It is a revolutionary bill that tries to unite Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and all other communities.”
On this occasion, Athawale launched a scathing attack on the Congress to oppose the bill and accused the party of ‘divide and rule the policy of rule’.
He said, “Muslims are now facing injustice. The Congress party is running on a policy of dividing and rule and Muslims and Dalits are not getting justice.”
Athawale demonstrated his specific intelligence in the Rajya Sabha and entertained the members with his comedy couplets during the parliamentary proceedings.
Addressing the House, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment adopted a poetic method to underline his arguments, on which fellow MPs laughed and applauded.
This time Athawale targeted the opposition with his poetic satire and expressed his support to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Addressing the House, Athwale Resited, “We remember the WQF bill, but we will do the opposition.
This poem filled with words of words and political sarcasm has made fun of the opposition, especially Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. In this, they have been urged to appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative for the Muslim community and the opposition has been warned against the constant criticism of PM Modi.
While reading another Doha, Athawale said, ‘It is so night, I am talking on the Waqf Bill, I am giving Modi ji with Modi ji, so I am showing Congress to Congress.’
Continuing the poetic defense of PM Modi’s policies, Athawale sarcasted the Congress, “Modiji talks about Muslims, but Congress people harm Muslims. Modiji talks about the poor, and he always talks about Muslims, minorities.”
The couplets of Athawale presented in the rhythmic style filled lightness in the session.
Athawale, known to mix Kavita with politics, used to bring a smile on the face of the people by going beyond the party line, causing otherwise intense debate in the upper house.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the passage of Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 is a “important moment” and this will help marginalized people who have been deprived of both voice and opportunity. “
Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, “The passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Muslim Waqf (Dismal) Bill by both houses of Parliament is an important moment in our collective discovery for socio-economic justice, transparency and inclusive development. This will help those who have been marginalized for a long time and thus have been deprived of both voice and opportunity.”
The Prime Minister said that the new amended Waqf Bill will protect the rights of the people. He said that transparency and lack of accountability in the Waqf system have damaged the interests of Muslim women and Pasmanda Muslims.
The Lok Sabha on Wednesday discussed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and passed it after midnight after the marathon debate.
The government introduced the amended bill after including the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, investigating the law introduced in August last year. The Bill aims to amend the 1995 Act and improve the administration and management of Waqf properties in India.
The Bill aims to remove the shortcomings of the previous Act, increase the efficiency of Waqf boards, improve the registration process and increase the role of technology in the management of Waqf records.
