It is yet to be signed by the President and then it will have to go through a legal battle. We will do what is constitutional. The amendment bill passed in Parliament is unconstitutional.”

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chief Sonia Gandhi has accused the government of passing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill arbitrarily. Sonia Gandhi has said that this bill is a public attack on the Constitution. This is part of the well-planned strategy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to keep the society in a state of permanent polarization. At the same time, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has responded to Sonia Gandhi. He said without naming that the comment by a senior member on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is not in accordance with unfortunate and parliamentary dignity.
How many votes in the side and opposition of Waqf Bill?
The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has been passed from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha Houses after the entire day’s discussion and debate between the ruling party and the opposition parties. In the Lok Sabha, 288 votes have been cast in favor of this bill and 232 votes in opposition. So at the same time, 128 votes were cast in favor of Waqf Bill in Rajya Sabha and 95 votes in opposition. With this, the bill passed from both houses by majority.
Who is Mohammad Javed?
Mohammad Javed is the leader and MP of the Congress Party. Javed represents the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. He was also elected MP from Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat in 2019. Challenging the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Supreme Court, Mohammad Javed has claimed that the bill is against constitutional provisions. At the same time, Owaisi has said in the petition that these provisions clearly violate the fundamental rights of Muslims and Muslim community.
