On Thursday, at least 47 people lost their lives in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the incidents of lightning and rain. According to PTI, 25 people have died in Bihar and 22 in Uttar Pradesh.
25 deaths in Bihar, the highest in Nalanda
According to the statement issued by the Bihar Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the highest number of people have died in Nalanda district. Apart from this, 2 people have died in Siwan, while Katihar, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Bhagalpur and Jehanabad. Earlier on Wednesday, 13 people died due to lightning in four districts of the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a grace of ₹ 4 lakh to the families of all the deceased and expressed deep condolences. At the same time, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav posted on X (East Twitter) and claimed that more than 50 people have died in the state. He wrote, “More than 50 people have died tragic in incidents like electricity, storms, rain, trees and wall fall. I express my deep condolences to mourned families.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released ‘Orange Alert’ for many districts of Bihar – Darbhanga, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Western Champaran, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Gaya, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Nalanda, Nawada and Patna. There is a possibility of heavy rains on Friday and Saturday.
22 killed in Uttar Pradesh, havoc in 15 districts
In Uttar Pradesh, adjacent to Bihar, 22 people lost their lives due to rain, hailstorm and havoc havoc. According to the Relief Commissioner’s Office, three-three each in Fatehpur and Azamgarh, two each in Firozabad, Kanpur Dehat and Sitapur, while Ghazipur, Gonda, Amethi, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Ballia, Kannauj, Barabanki, Jaunpur and Unnao have died.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the families of all the deceased to distribute permissible relief amount of ₹ 4 lakh immediately. Along with this, after the treatment of the injured and survey of crop loss, the report has also been asked to send the report, so that further action can be taken.
