Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said on Monday that the Modi government works on a policy of not tolerating fugitives like Mehul Choksi and corruption and he also said that the Center will work on bringing it to India soon.
Official sources said on Monday that fugitive diamond businessman Mehul Choksi, accused of involvement in the “fraud” case of Rs 13,000 crore in Punjab National Bank (PNB), was arrested in Belgium after an extradition request of Indian investigative agencies.

Chaudhary was talking to journalists on the sidelines of the 77th batch closing ceremony of Indian Revenue Service officials at the National Direct Taxes Academy in Nagpur.
Asked how the government is working on Choksi’s arrest and extradition, Chaudhary said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been saying from the beginning that those who loot the property of the country and the fugitives will be brought back and the money of the people will be returned. He said, “This action has been taken accordingly and the government will work towards bringing it back soon.”
The minister said, “The Modi government has a policy of not tolerating such fugitives and corruption.”
Asked about the counter -charges imposed by the US on India and his impact on the Indian economy, Chaudhary said that his department is assessing it. He said, “The decision to impose a fee has been postponed. However, the department is reviewing what effect it will have and how to control its effect. The government is focusing on this aspect. ”
