There were 1866 cases of suicide in a year in Surat.
Surat: Surat, the Hira city of Gujarat, has received 1866 cases of suicide in the last 2022 to 2024 i.e. in a period of 3 years. According to Surat police, domestic dispute was the biggest cause of suicide, while prolonged illness and financial crises are also among the major causes. In view of the increasing cases of suicide, the Surat police have introduced 2 dedicated helpline number 8128369100 and 8128308100 to prevent people from taking suicidal steps, which will be available 24 hours from Tuesday.
The disease also broke many people
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said that a committee was formed 3 months ago to study the causes of suicides. The committee analyzed 1866 cases of suicide and found that 26 percent i.e. 490 cases were due to domestic dispute. Apart from this, 24 percent i.e. 452 people gave their lives due to prolonged illness. The study has shown that 19 per cent of suicide ie 355 persons gave their lives due to financial crisis and debt, including usury and monetary pressure.
Depression is also the major reason for suicide
In the survey, 12.2 per cent i.e. 228 suicides were linked with depression, 11 per cent i.e. 200 people with educational or career failure, failure in examination or failure to get jobs. 5.6 percent i.e. 104 people died due to tension in romantic relationships. In addition, the study has shown that about 2 percent i.e. 37 people killed themselves after being a victim of cyber fraud or blackmailing. The survey also revealed that most of the cases of suicide were reported in areas where the population of workers working in the factory is high.
