Price should be fixed on the basis of quality of cheese
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs is considering issuing new guidelines on cheese served in hotels and restaurants. A senior government official has shared information about the whole matter. According to the official, hotels and restaurants may have to tell their customers soon that they are serving them with milk or they are serving cheese prepared from non-day product. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made analog cheese mandatory to label analog cheese as a ‘non-day’ to prevent fraud with customers. However, these rules are not currently applied to the prepared food served in the restaurant.
Analog Paneer looks like cheese prepared from traditional milk
According to FSSAI, Analog Paneer is a product in which milk components are replaced either completely or partially with non-dairy products. However, the cheese prepared from non-dairy products also looks similar to traditional milk-prepared cheese. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of Consumer Affairs, said, “Analog cheese is similar to traditional cheese in taste, but it is not really cheese. Analog Paneer is cheaper. Why do hotels and restaurant do not tell customers about it. ”
Price should be fixed on the basis of quality of cheese
Nidhi Khare said that hotels and restaurants should clearly explain to customers that they have traditional cheese in served food or are prepared from non-dairy products (analog) cheese and they should fix the price accordingly. He said that cheese made of non-day product like vegetable oil should not be sold in the name of traditional cheese. Paneer made of non-dairy products has become quite popular, as it costs about half of the cheese made from milk, while its taste and texture is the same. Analog cheese is usually made of emulsifier, starch and vegetable oil.
