Ahmedabad: The demolition campaign started on a large scale to make the Chandola lake area in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Wednesday, on Wednesday. The biggest action was taken so far to demolish more than 2000 illegal constructions around Chandola Lake.

Deployment of 2,000 policemen
Chandola Lake became the largest shelter for Bangladeshi infiltrators. In the last 14 years, the size of Chandola lake, known as ‘Mini Bangladesh’, has reduced rapidly and pucca houses, mosques and small factories were started inside it. Now the government has taken major action against these illegal intruders. According to the release issued by the state government, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation installed more than 70 ‘Artemawar’ machines and 200 ‘dumpers’ to demolish illegal construction. At the same time, the government also deployed about 2,000 policemen along with 20 companies of the State Reserve Police (SRP) to maintain law and order during the campaign.

‘Will withdraw one inch of government land’
A state minister said that the government will free about 1.25 lakh square meters of land from unauthorized possession. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the city police started a large -scale demolition campaign in the area on Tuesday. A few days ago, illegal Bangladeshi migrants were detained from settlements around the water body. Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, who is monitoring the demolition campaign, said that illegal Bangladeshi migrants have built an illegal settlement on 1.25 lakh square meters of land around the lake in Dani Limda area of the city. He said, we will remove encroachments and will withdraw each inch of government land. The administration and police are campaigning with human approach. Illegal Bangladeshis have encroached on about 1.25 lakh square meters of land. The campaign to remove this encroachment is still going on.
About 2000 policemen were deployed.
FIR lodged against ‘Mastermind’ Lalu Pathan
After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir, the city police raided the Chandola Lake area on 26 April and detained more than 150 Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the area with the help of Lalu Pathan alias Lallu Bihari. According to Malik, an FIR has been lodged against the ‘mastermind’ Lalu Pathan behind encroachment on government land in Chandola Lake. He said that Pathan had also helped Bangladeshi intruders to get a rental house and get Aadhaar card.

According to the FIR filed by the Crime Branch on Tuesday, Pathan was involved in theft with his son Fateh Mohammad Pathan and 6 others, to provide electricity connections to illegal settlers, misuse electricity bills and to take fare from houses built on government land. Deputy Municipal Commissioner BC Parmar said that about 2,000 houses built illegally were marked to demolish the huts and other properties. (With language inputs)
