It has been one and a half months since the fire and cash burning in the store room of Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence, but so far the investigation report of the committee of 3 judges has not come in this case. Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna is also going to retire on 13 May. It is expected that before the retirement of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, the committee of judges will submit its report in the case of burning cash from the fire of Justice Yashwant Verma. The committee consists of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice GS Sandhawalia of Himachal Pradesh High Court and Anu Shivraman, Justice of Karnataka High Court.
Justice Yashwant Verma was first posted in the Delhi High Court. On the night of 14 March 2025, a fire broke out in the store room of Justice Yashwant Verma’s government residence in Delhi. Justice Verma was not in Delhi then. He went to Madhya Pradesh. Justice Yashwant Verma’s staff and family informed the fire brigade and Delhi Police when the fire broke out. After extinguishing the fire, Delhi Police officials saw the burnt cash there. The video of which he sent to the Police Commissioner of Delhi. Delhi Police Commissioner sent this video to Chief Justice DK Upadhyay of Delhi High Court and gave all the information. After which Justice Upadhyay sent information and video to Justice Yashwant Verma’s house to Justice Yashwant Verma’s house.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has formed a committee to investigate the cash burning incident.
After the news of the cash burning in the media, Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna asked Justice DK Upadhyay for a preliminary inquiry and also put the video and order on the Supreme Court website. Justice Yashwant Verma told the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court that when his family and staff went to the spot after extinguishing the fire, they did not see the burnt cash. Justice Yashwant Verma also expressed anticipation of the conspiracy. After this, a committee of 3 judges was formed and Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna ordered Justice Yashwant Verma to transfer Allahabad High Court.
