The police have arrested the university professor Dilip Jha for offering prayers at the NSS camp of Guru Ghasidas Central University located in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. Police officials gave this information on Thursday.
Police officials said that the police arrested Jha for influencing the evidence and not cooperating in the investigation. According to the police, on Saturday, the police had registered a case against Professor Dilip Jha, Dr. Madhulika Singh, Dr. Jyoti Verma, Dr. Neeraj Kumari, Dr. Prashant Vaishnav, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Jyoti Verma, Doctor Neeraj Kumari, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Jyoti Verma, Dr. Jyoti Verma, Doctor Neeraj Kumari, Dr. Prasant Vaishnav, Dr. Suryabhan Singh, was organized in Shivatarai village under Kota police station area of the district.
He informed that NSS camp was organized by Guru Ghasidas Central University from 26 March to 1 April 2025 in Shivatrai village of Kota. Professor Dilip Jha, Dr. Madhulika Singh, Dr. Jyoti Verma, Dr. Neeraj Kumari, Dr. Prashant Vaishnav, Dr. Suryabhan Singh, Dr. Basant Kumar and Team Core Leader Ayushman Chaudhary were present in the camp. It had four students Muslims.
Officials said that during the camp, on March 31, the camp chief teachers and team leaders had allegedly organized a program and offered prayers to all the students. He said that two weeks after the end of the camp, some students involved in it had lodged a complaint at the Koni police station of the university area that they were pressurized and offered prayers.
Later, Hinduist organizations and other student organizations including Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) performed several times in the university campus. All demanded concrete action against the teachers responsible in the matter.
Police officials said that Bilaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh had formed a four -member inquiry committee under the leadership of CSP, Kotwali Akshay Sabdra to investigate the case.
After the appearance report was presented before SSP Rajnesh Singh on Saturday, a case was registered against the teachers and students for hurting religious sentiments by offering prayers at the NSS camp of the Central University in the police station Koni.
He informed that a case has been registered against teachers and students under sections of Indian Justice Code and Chhattisgarh Dharma Independence Act. The police has started an investigation into the case.
Officials said that with the evidence of the crime during the investigation, Jha tried to influence the investigation and evidence and did not cooperate in the investigation, due to which the accused Professor Dilip Jha was arrested and produced in the court today.
He said that the police is investigating the case.
